Soooo…. How did you…me… craft this story/book/nonexistent work of fiction?
Well, it took a lot of world-building, which is something I quite enjoy. You know me, I take a lot of time with researching the myths and fantasies behind whatever setting/plot I’m interested in and then I create a whole world around it. Lots of the world-building is imagery, but I think characters are really the driving force behind the story, more important than plot. Once I sketch out a character and who I want them to be, I can make them do anything.
LMAO that sounds so threatening. Like, that’s some Godfather vibes going on right there in that last sentence. But yeah, world-building is so fun, cuz I get to be all ‘MUHAHAHA I AM GOD DIS MY WORLD’ but also, it’s kinda like being a proud mom. Like, this is my baby, I made it. Creating characters is fun cuz I like to take a few traits from real people, a few traits from me, and a few traits from characters from other things and then I toss them all in a blender and voila! New person! But I always make sure that it’s a good balance and there’s no plagiarism involved. 😉
How did you decide to structure your story/book/nonexistent work of fiction, me?
I like using sections to divide things because it gives a sense of order to the pieces I write. And I’ll usually divide those sections with breaks, but if I think that section breaks will interrupt the flow of the piece, then I’ll usually have one continuous stream of writing.
LOL, what a liar.
Excuse me?
Ya heard me. I said what I said. You lie, me! Everything is arbitrary! You – me – we write and don’t even consider form unless it’s gotta be turned in for a grade. Writing is just getting the story down and structure is later.
…. Okay that’s fair I suppose.
Moving on. What can you… me learn from the writing experience of this piece?
I think I could definitely learn to plan things out better. Sometimes, I’ll have a great idea and I’ll want to go with it, but then I’m so busy concentrating on the part I’m currently writing that I’ll lose track of the idea I just had. So I guess I’d be better organized about writing, maybe have an outline or a page for jotting down notes or something.
K, so I’m up writing, right? It’s like, o’dark thirty in the darn morning and I’m made up entirely of regrets and sleep deprivation and manic energy pulled from the dredges of my brain. I’m thinking to myself, ‘Serves you right, idiot. Learn to write earlier and plan out a schedule. Your suffering is your fault.’
Huh. So we actually agree on this.
Hah, nope. Cuz then I finish writing and the wave of elation washes over me and then I crash and go to bed and I wake up and either think, ‘This is pure garbage’ or ‘ZOMG DIS IS AMAZING’ but either way, something exists and that’s the whole point of writing, getting something out there in the world for people to read. So that’s how I know I’ll… we’ll… continue to keep up this weird pattern of behavior and write like some type of nocturnal creature. Like a bat or something.
Well, I agree that this method can be productive, but it is damaging to the sleep cycle and not all of what is produced is good so –
That’s what you think, me. Writing is all about the process of creation. Quality can always come later. Reminds me of that piece I wrote about the Powell Cat that time when I was sleep deprived and on a sugar high at 4 in the morning.
NO! That piece was awful! It read like I was on drugs, it was that bad.
Excuse you, me, it was fantastic. How can you not love a piece when it starts with ‘I AM CAT! Of Powell!! Mew meow mew meow meow meow –“
All right, I think I’ll end the interview here. Thanks for your…our… my (?) time.
